Tentative Itinerary

Sat 3/10/2012 Depart the US.
Sat 3/11/2012

Upon arrival at Gardermoen airport we are transferred by a private Motor Coach to Sjusjöen and our favorite Mountain Lodge – our home for the next seven days. Accommodations are in double rooms with private bathrooms. Meals are big buffet style Norwegian breakfasts, trail lunches and evening dinners. The comfortable sitting areas feature two fire places and beautiful antique furniture – great areas for evening conversations, games or just curling up with a book. If that does not appeal to you there is always the well equipped indoor waxing room – also a good place for socializing - or the two saunas!

Skiing is right from the door. A network of 300+ km of groomed trails offers unlimited possibilities for all levels of skiers. Snow conditions are very stable and March is the best month for skiing in Norway. The days are longer and the sun warmer, yet the snow usually remains dry. Many of the trails are above timberline offering spectacular views. The heavily forested trails in the lower areas offer shelter from the elements on cold and windy days.

Norwegian Birkebeiner (Birkebeinerrennet)  www.birkebeiner.no
If you are into ski marathon races you will have the option of skiing this 54K classic style Worldloppet Race www.worldloppet.com. The race starts in Rena and ends across the mountain in Lillehammer. Race buses are organized from Sjusjöen to the start in Rena the morning of the race.

Sun 3/18/2012 Transfer to the Airport and your return flight to the U.S. OR join the Norwegian Trekking Association for another week of Hut-to-Hut skiing.
Pre or Post Trip Option

We will organize a guided tour with the Norwegian Trekking Association in one of Norway’s National Parks. Exact itinerary will be determined when we know the interests and experience of the participants. Most of the “Huts” are full service lodges. Accommodations are in 4-6 bedded bunk rooms and breakfast, trail lunch and dinners are provided at the huts. Ski trails are staked but not machine groomed. Participants should be able to ski all day in all kinds of weather carrying a 20lb pack.  Additional cost for the Hut to Hut part will depend on actual itinerary.
