Norwegian Birkebeiner Ski Race

www.birkebeiner.no

This is your chance to ski the 57 kilometer “Birkebeinerrennet” which is one of the Worldloppet Races (www.worldloppet.com). Racers are required to carry a 3.5 kg (7.7lb) pack which should contain extra clothing, gloves, food, drinks, wax etc. This is for safety reasons as the course crosses the mountain range and temperatures and weather may change quickly. Oh Yes...the weight also symbolizes the baby King Haakon Haakonsson who was carried to safety across the mountain by the two Birkebeiners Torstein Skjevla and Skjervald Skrukka in year 1206. There will be bus transportation organized from Sjusjöen to the start in Rena on the morning of the race.
